Green Space
A local farmer checks his produce in suburban Shanghai. About 45 minutes drive from downtown Shanghai, Minhang district is undergoing rapid changes, with new developments eating away at the shrinking patches of farmland.
Summer Cut
A small dog gets a haircut in a residential compound in Minhang. The temperature has been steadily climbing over the past weeks, the rain bringing some respite.
Toys in the Park
The hot days bring large numbers of local residents to the park in the evenings, when temperatures are cooler, and with the crowds come the hawkers selling all manner of goods - such as the selection of toys above.
Evening Entertainment
Residents enjoy the cool evenings and bring the children down to Hua Xin park to play on the bouncy castle.
Fuxing Greenery
On a hot weekend the park attracts a number of people seeking the shade of a tree, or a quiet corner to read a book and escape the shop crowds..
The Zoo
A cool weekend meant it was possible to take a pleasant walk around the zoo. For the most part it is an enjoyable day out, although it is hard not to feel sorry for the apes and monkeys, housed in small cages. However, there are some developments, as the gorillas have a new and spacious enclosure. Given time I am sure the other quarters will be transformed.
